Ho Chi Minh City Proposes Free Bus and Metro Tickets for Citizens.

The Department of Transport of Ho Chi Minh City has proposed a policy to support citizens in using buses and trains, especially offering 100% free tickets for policy beneficiaries such as those with meritorious service, people with disabilities, the elderly, and children under 6 years old. When Metro line 1 starts operating, in the first 30 days, Ho Chi Minh City will provide free rides for all passengers on the train and 17 connecting bus routes. The estimated budget to support these beneficiaries is 32.6 billion dong per year, and to support the operation of Metro line 1 is 15.7 billion dong. The total cost for public transportation operations by bus and train is estimated at 2,226 billion dong per year. This policy will be submitted to the People's Council in December 2024 and will take effect from January 1, 2025, aiming to reduce congestion and environmental pollution.
